Cruelty-Free Affordable Makeup

When I first started learning about the animal cruelty in the cosmetics industry I was shocked and disgusted. I couldn’t believe that in this day and age it was happening and that so many companies that I loved and used were apart of it.

I was terrified that I was going to have to give up all my favorite cosmetics and lead a make-up free life. I am a qualified Beautician and Body Therapist and make-up has always been a passion of mine so this was quite a scary thought.

But after I started researching and learning I found out that there are many companies that are passionate about putting an end to animal cruelty just like me.

I want to share with you some of my favorite products from some of my favorite brands. They are all available in New Zealand and the best part is that they are all under $25NZD.

Designer Brands

I have been using Designer Brands products since I was a teenager. They are very affordable and they are very good quality. All of their products are cruelty-free and most of their products, including this foundation, are vegan too!!

This is my favorite foundation! I wear it most days and it is fantastic for a full-coverage, flawless look. It stays on all day and looks just as good at the end of the day as it did when you first applied it. It comes in a frosted glass bottle and has a pump for easy dispensing.

Chi Chi

Chi Chi is an Australian company whose products are always highly pigmented and cruelty-free.

Two of my favorite Chi Chi products are the baked eyeshadows and eyebrow pencils. This baked eyeshadow is in the shade ‘call me’ and I use it mostly as a highlighter! It is the perfect golden shimmer and works just as well as an eyeshadow. This eyebrow pencil is my favorite eyebrow product of all time! I have it in the shade ‘blonde taupe’ and it is the perfect shade for my skin tone/hair. It is buttery and pigmented and glides on effortlessly and stays all day!!

Australis

Australis is another Australian company whose products are all cruelty-free and they even have vegan products too!! These are the first Australis products I have tried so I cannot comment on their whole range but I adore these two products!

This mascara is the bomb if you are after a good amount of volume. It separates my lashes and makes them look fuller. I also love the funky metallic pink packaging. The metalix eyeshadow I have is in the shade ‘guns and rose petals’ and it is the perfect inner corner sparkle for your eyes. I use a cotton tip to apply it and it is magical once applied!

NYX

NYX is an american brand that hasn’t been easily accessible in New Zealand until recently when online makeup stores started selling it. Farmers now stock it in certain stores as well. NYX is 100% cruelty free.

I purchased this butter gloss not that long ago but I am already obsessed with it. It is in the shade ‘angel food cake’ and it is the perfect mauve pink for everyday wear. A real ‘my lips but better’ colour.

Natio

I have used Natio products for years. They are an Australian company whose products are plantbased and they offer skin care, makeup, body and Men’s products. They are cruelty-free and do have some vegan products too.

This is one of their lip sticks in the shade ‘spring’. It is so velvety and moisturising and feels great to wear. It is again another mauve pink colour and I absolutely adore it! They have a great colour selection and I cannot wait to try more!

These are just some of the brands and products that don’t contribute to the pain and suffering of innocent animals.

Do you have a favorite cruelty-free brand or product? Let me know in the comments below, I’d love to hear from you.
