Green smoothies may take a bit to get used to…trust me I know!! I’ve made my fair share of less than appetizing green smoothies! But this one is probably my favourite green smoothie of all time 🙂 I’ve been making this recipe for a while now so I thought I would write it down and share it with the world!
This smoothie does include spiralina and I would advise if you’ve never used spiralina before to start with half the amount of spiralina and work your way up to the suggested amount in the recipe. The taste does takes a while to get used to, but once you are used to it and you feel the benefits of including spiralina in your diet you’ll be hooked just like me!! If your used to spiralina I invite you to add more than the recommended amount in the recipe, I just prefer the spiralina not to take over the entire flavour of my smoothies 🙂
This is an excellent smoothie to have for breakfast and provides a real nutrient boost for the day. It is also equally as good mid-afternoon as a pick me up! My number one tip for making good smoothies is to blend them for longer than you think you need to. This ensures a super smooth smoothie 🙂
Glorious Green Smoothie

- 1 ripe medium banana
- 1 medium apple of choice, skin on
- 2-3 leaves of kale (about 1 packed cup), stalks removed
- 1/2 tsp spiralina
- 1 tsp either ground flaxseed or chia seed
- water to blend
- Add all ingredients to a high speed blender, using enough water to blend, less water=thick smoothie, more water=thinner more juice like smoothie.
- Add ice to cool and enjoy 🙂
